The new Harold & Elaine Shames Jewish Community Center is located on a 6.6-acre site that previously housed a training center for General Motors and a small office building used as the JCC's previous community center.
 
The 40,000 sf GM building has been renovated and expanded to create a multipurpose 58,000 sf facility.  A new 29,000 sf athletic wing (created by demolishing an 11,000 sf section of the existing building) houses a gymnasium, a natatorium with two pools, and locker rooms; the remainder of the building contains an auditorium, a music school, meeting spaces, administrative offices, and a cafe.  

The site has been transformed into a complete campus featuring common green space, outdoor recreation space, improved circulation and  parking.
