Guadalupe Center is a resort located on an eight-acre site adjacent to a preexisting 150-room country inn. The resort is located along the Guadalupe River, in the Texas Hill Country. The project includes 180 guest room apartment suites, garage parking, and a waterfront recreation area with a pool, tennis courts, marina, and restaurant pavilion.

We designed a series of connected outdoor spaces between the existing inn courtyard and the waterfront. These outdoor spaces are defined by low walls, trellises, berms, and fountains. A pathway passes through the buildings and connects across the river road to the top of the restaurant pavilion overlooking the river and pool. The final outdoor space in the sequence is the pool terrace at the waterfront. It is defined by four elements: a landscape embankment, a bosque of oaks, the wall of the restaurant pavilion, and the open water. This arrangement of outdoor space recalls the Villa Medici at Fiesole, which uses similar elements to create a defined rectangle on a hillside overlooking Florence.
