As an overall composition of landscape and building, the Riverview Manor House addresses the same two settings as the Flower House: the first is the streetscape with common setbacks and common architectural traditions; the second is the steep, west slope of the Hudson River Valley and the views to the river and Palisades. To adapt to this setting, the building steps down the hill and embraces a stone terrace on one level and a grass terrace below it. In a modest way, the building responds to the challenge of creating a villa — a combination of interconnected interior and exterior rooms, which relate to a broader landscape.
