The Windward School is an independent, co-ed day school for students with language-based learning disabilities.  It is located on two campuses in White Plains—a Lower School campus and a Middle School campus.

The Teacher Training Institute (TTI) at Windward was founded in 1988 by Dr. Judith Hochman to foster the professional development of teachers, administrators, and clinicians, and to provide outreach to parents.   We designed a new building for the Teacher Training Institute on the Middle School campus to meet the increasing demand for training and outreach, and to support the needs of the Middle School for instruction, recreation, and assembly.

The form and placement of the new TTI building create a central courtyard which functions as the “Town Square” for the Middle School campus.  The TTI itself is a two-story, 16,500 sf building containing offices and conference rooms, a tiered lecture room, a multipurpose room, and a large auditorium with raked seating and excellent sightlines.  All of the large group spaces are connected by a generous lobby and single-loaded corridor which look out to the new central courtyard and serve as an art gallery for the Institute and the School.
