Project Information
We teamed with the Bronxville Historical Conservancy to study the natural and built landscapes of the Village of Bronxville. Through close examination of the landscape and visual character of the Village, the Conservancy hoped to obtain vital information about how to preserve and enhance the surrounding environment.
Through mapping, four landscape types in the Village were identified; clear differences in these landscape types emerged. Perhaps the most useful aspect of this study is the holistic description of the physical environment of the Village of Bronxville. Rather than looking at developed land in terms of street patterns and patterns of land use, it acknowledges that the natural landscape predates the man-made landscape, and that the resulting terrain is a combination of nature and culture.
