The library consists of two rectangular buildings (“wings”) with gable roofs joined together by a flat-roofed entry pavilion. The two wings and the curving edge of Main Street define an exterior courtyard at the library’s entrance.  The larger rectangle houses community space and the adult library on two floors; the smaller rectangle contains the children’s library. The connecting pavilion serves as both the entry and the periodical room, and opens to a terrace overlooking the Hudson.

The library is constructed of materials which are architecturally consistent with the other important civic buildings of the village; its clocktower relates visually to the towers on eight of these civic buildings. Through its unique setting and organization, the library relates to the scale and fabric of the village, and the wider landscape of the Hudson River Valley.
