Recognizing the shift in public usage and the new expectations of users, the Greenwich Library embarked on a Master Plan to understand how best to serve the community, to rethink portions of the Main Library building, to address the need for updating worn furnishings and materials. The completed Master Plan provided the guidance for a comprehensive refurbishment of the 104,000 sf building.

Areas that were reinvented included:

Spaces dedicated to children and teens;
New Business Center;
Meeting and Study Spaces

New spaces were created, including a new Innovation Lab Makerspace, public spaces and the cafe were made more spacious and welcoming, including a transformation of the existing theater.
